Soil Fertility Status and NPK Blends at Planting for Maize Growing in the Western Kenyan Counties Uasin Gishu and Busia

چکیده

15/35 Abstract Crop production on smallholder agricultural land must increase considerably if the growing world population is to be fed. To achieve this, affordable soil testing methods, fertilizer recommendations and the accessibility of optimal fertilizers containing the required nutrients are required. The SoilCares mobile laboratory offers affordable soil testing using infrared spectroscopy and slightly modified Quantitative Evaluation of the Fertility of Tropical Soils (QUEFTS) for fertilizer recommendations (through the use of blends) to smallholders. SoilCares soil testing results from Research Findings

Unravelling the effects of soil and crop management on maize productivity in smallholder agricultural systems of western Kenya—An application of classification and regression tree analysis

To guide soil fertility investment programmes in sub-Saharan Africa, better understanding is needed of the relative importance of soil and crop management factors in determining smallholder crop yields and yield variability. Spatial variability in crop yields within farms is strongly influenced by variation in both current crop management (e.g. planting dates, fertilizer rates) and soil fertili...

Planting scenarios for maize cropping under drought conditions

ABSTRACT Water management is an essential concept for water intensive crop such as maize dealing with water shortage under drought conditions. Maize production is ranked after wheat and barely in Fars province, Iran. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the effects of planting methods by conventional and modified planters on maize growth and yield at different irrigation re...

The effect of planting methods on maize growth and yield at different irrigation regimes

ABSTRACT- Maize production, which is ranked after wheat and barely in Fars province, Iran, needs a considerable amount of irrigation water that is not available in scarce water conditions in drought situations. Therefore, proper planting method can improve irrigation water management. The objectives of the present study were to investigate the effects of two planting methods, on-bed and in furr...
